My name is Matthew Foer. I am a Rotary Youth Exchange student, spending my junior year in Northeastern Brazil in the city of Jaboatao dos Guararapes in the metropolitan region of Recife. I am living with a host family and going to the local high school, completely immersing myself in Brazilian culture and the Portuguese language.
This has been made possible by donations from family, friends and public figures in my hometown of Annapolis, MD in the United States. For several months I worked hard, raising money by working for neighbors. I walked dogs, cared for cats, digitized records and helped with yardwork.
I play jazz alto saxophone, love all kinds of music, enjoy reading and writing and am interested in martial arts, parkour and other forms of physical expression. I plan to be a musician, composer, writer and traveler.
